After an intense year, I've completed my first year as an MFA student @ UC Santa Cruz' Digital Arts + New Media program. Below is a timeline showing highlights for each quarter from present all the way to the beginning.

    in {cantation} in {translation}

    My spring Open Studio's project: an encounter with a contemporary divination mirror based on the obsidian mirrors of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.

    Cultivamos Excelencia Research Symposium

    After 9 months, my mentees from San Jose City College completed their research and presented it at the end-of-year symposium.

    GSA Travel Grant

    I received some funding to reimburse travel for my artist residency last quarter!

  • April 19, 2018

    Exhibition Opening for Emerging Visions: Creative Practice at the Nexus of Freedom and Justice

    I showed two pieces at the Emerging Visions exhibition in UC Santa Cruz: { wish u were queer } and wellness wonder cabinet (an adaptation of my infinity cabinet from winter quarter). The exhibition runs April 19 to June 19, 2018.

    Accepted to the Queerness and Games Conference!

    Woooo - I'll be presenting at QGCon 2018 with a talk, Kaleidescopic Queer Futures: { wish u were queer }, and I'll also be showing my game at the arcade!

    Corporal Interactivo Residency

    A two-week residency in Buenos Aires, Argentina exploring the intersections of computer vision and live performance.

    Infinity Cabinet

    A fun project where I got to solder, program arduino, and experiment with projection for an infinity mirror / interactive cabinet.

    Inaguaral MIR Workshop

    Our first workshop, an introduction to Derivative TouchDesigner for DANM students at UC Santa Cuz - taught in collabration with Matthew Ragan.

    { wish u were queer }

    A game about symmetry, identity and the fluidity of gender and sexual orientation. Players are invited to drag and drop pictograms of gender symbols and sexual relationships on a chromatic, ethereal landscape.

    Pre-Thesis Demo

    An interactive installation I made at the beginning of Winter Quarter as a representation of my thesis project. It included a projection mapped cabinet, TUIO markers and found objects.

    reflected | refracted

    My fall Open Studio project: a study in volumetric color space. Using responsive lighting through a gesture and movement, participants were able to control the color and lighting of the room around them.

  • November 28, 2017

    Idea Hub Grant

    My first grad school grant helped me start MIR: Materializing Interactive Research; a computing lab for artists and designers, that focuses on how physical, social play can meaningfully inform the ways we use sensing technologies in digital art and new media.

    Night Lights

    A group project for my electronics class: interactive night lights for dark pathways on UCSC's campus. Materials included laser cut wood, velum, LED RGBs and an arduino micro-controller.

    Live Design International Conference

    In November, I got the opportunity to attend LDI and help teaching a TouchDesigner workshop. I also got to see some great talks and meet industry professionals in live entertainment.

    DMX Light Research

    My initial research at UCSC began with a study of DMX lighting, color theory, and the RGB color space.
